A lot of people say that accounting is the language of business. In the business world, a lot of your success will be related to the connections that you're able to make and the connections that you're able to build. The GSM (Graduate School of Management) really helps to facilitate that. Going into a program like this, not only are you going to be able to connect with all of your cohort, but you also will be able to make connections with people in the other programs as well as the alumni network.

The MPAc program has a great reputation with employers in the job market. It's nine months long, so you're in and out pretty quickly. The time that you invest here, I think, really will pay you dividends in the future. When I was applying to the GSM, I did have some anxiety but, I really believed in myself and followed through with the process, and it ended up working out for the best. So, if you can take anything from me, I would say, believe in yourself.

This MPAc program is for students who are interested in pursuing a long term career in professional accountancy. Most of the students, after graduation, will join public CPA firms to actually earn a few years of assurance or auditing experiences. A lot of our alumni has transitioned into more executive positions, or have been migrated into the financial industries.

After realizing that I could actually start my own company based on an idea, I needed the business competence to back that up. So I turned towards the MPAc program. This program has been a huge help. I landed a job before I even started my first class of the MPAc program. So, just having MPAc as an experience point, companies were more confident in hiring me.

Our professors really encourage group work. So it reflects an actual professional environment where you're working in teams every day, which I quite enjoy. A small cohort experience allows you to develop really deep networking opportunities and connections and friendships with your classmates who are going into a similar industry as you. So you know that they’re friendships for life.

Some of the resources that really helped launch my career were GSM sponsored events like career fairs, Meet the Firms, one-on-ones with professionals in my industry. And that actually helped me land a job before the program even began. I got my job as an audit associate at KPMG, which is one of the Big Four accounting firms. I'm really excited to learn more about the audit side of accounting, as well as maybe use those skills later on to found my own company.
