Core Course Waiver Information
For Full-Time MBA, Bay Area Part-Time MBA and Sacramento Part-Time MBA Current Students
You may be exempted from the requirement to take certain core courses with the approval of the designated faculty member. Exemption, if granted, does not award course credit and you would take an additional elective to replace the exempted course.
Course exemptions are sometimes by examination or may be granted at the instructor’s discretion based on previous coursework.
402A/Y Markets and the Firm (Microeconomics)
Students should email their transcript to the professor on record, listing out a course with substantially similar content. To establish similar content, students should provide a copy of the syllabus used in the course they took, and/or a copy of the course description from the school's course catalog.
403A/Y Data Analysis for Managers (Statistics)
Students should email the professor their transcript, listing out a course with substantially similar content. To establish similar content, students should provide a copy of the syllabus used in the course and/or a copy of the course description from the school's course catalog. The student may be asked to take a waiver exam if courses are insufficient.
400A/Y Financial Accounting
Students who earned a bachelor or master’s degree in accounting and/or who are certified public accountants will be automatically waived from taking the course. Please email the professor on record with this information.
Students who feel they have a very good understanding of basic accounting principles may request to take the waiver exam. This includes students who minored in accounting or have already taken a few financial accounting courses.
401B/Y Organizational Strategy and Structure
Students who have previously taken graduate-level coursework in Organizational Behavior/Strategy only should contact your professor with a syllabus from the course and a corresponding transcript that reflects a grade of B or higher. Course waivers will be examined on a case-by-case basis. There is no waiver exam for this course.
404/Y Marketing Management
Students should email the instructor of the course with their transcript, listing out a graduate-level course in Marketing Management (or similarly titled course), in which they received a grade of A or higher. Course waivers will be approved on a a case-by-case basis. There is no waiver exam for this course.
405/Y Financial Theory and Policy
Students should email the professor their transcript, listing out a course with substantially similar content. To establish similar content, students should provide a copy of the syllabus used in the course and/or a copy of the course description from the school's course catalog. The student may be asked to take a waiver exam if courses are insufficient.
401A/Y Individual and Group Dynamics
Students who have taken graduate-level coursework in Organizational Behavior can email the professor with a syllabus from the course and a corresponding transcript that reflects a grade of B or higher. Course waivers will be examined on a case-by-case basis. There is no waiver exam for this course.
452/452Y Managing for Operational Excellence
Students should email the professor with their request to waive the course. They should provide a transcript showing they have completed an equivalent level course and received a grade of B or higher. A waiver exam will be given if the course submitted for review is deemed insufficient.
Course Waivers will NOT be offered for the following courses:
268 Articulation and Critical Thinking
Develop competency in business writing and oral presentations. Build critical thinking skills. Topics include behavioral economics, false claims, deductive reasoning, correlation/causality, business ethics.
